Beyond the Graphic Tee: How Lorenzo Beach is Elevating Chicago Streetwear with güdPPL
GG Exclusive promotional flyer for güdPPL Fashion House featuring Lorenzo Beach and the article titled Beyond the Graphic Tee.
If you were in Chicago for the recent live DJ battle hosted by güdPPL (pronounced Good People), you already know the energy was unmatched. It wasn’t just a party; it was an intentional gathering of culture, music, and style.
Behind the scenes of this unforgettable night is Lorenzo Beach, the visionary head of the GüdPPL fashion house. We recently sat down to chop it up with Lorenzo about the recent event, the evolution of his brand, and why he is on a mission to redefine what Chicago streetwear looks like for a maturing generation.
The Millennial Dilemma: Maturing the Closet
Lorenzo Beach, founder of güdPPL Fashion House, reviewing brand strategy and mature silhouettes on a laptop with his creative team in a Chicago studio setting.
Streetwear in Chicago is a staple, but as Lorenzo points out, the market is heavily saturated with one specific look: graphic-forward apparel. While there is nothing wrong with a great graphic tee or a heavy hoodie, Lorenzo noticed a gap in the market—and in his own life.
"I think millennials are like the middle child of society, and I think that is represented in our fashion," Lorenzo explains. "We’re at that in-between where we still want to be young, youthful, and vibrant in our dressing, but we also want to refine and mature our closets."
The lightbulb moment for the brand's new direction came from a highly relatable place: surveying his own wardrobe. "I looked at my closet last year and thought, Dang, there are so many things I’m being invited to where I can't even wear my own brand."
To solve that problem, Güdppl is taking a different approach. The brand is pivoting to supply what Lorenzo calls "mature silhouettes"—slightly elevated pieces that maintain the vibrant soul of streetwear but are refined enough to wear out to a dinner party. It is a necessary balance that the Chicago-based brand scene has been missing.
The DJ Battle: Curating a Vibe
GüdPPL’s ethos isn't just about what you wear; it’s about how you experience the community around you. When it came time to activate the brand, Lorenzo wanted to move past the standard clothing pop-up model.
"I saw a unique opportunity... something that wasn't being done," he says. The idea for a live DJ battle, which he describes as being "downloaded from God," was born out of a pure love for music and art.
The goal wasn't just to sell clothes, but to be a premier host for the culture. "I feel like when somebody comes to your crib, you want to make sure they have a good time and leave satisfied. That was my desire with the DJ battle."
And the talent delivered. Showcasing the vast variations of DJing within hip-hop and R&B, the event was a masterclass in reading a room. According to Lorenzo, the sets spanned the entire spectrum of the culture—from refined, "upper echelon" mixes, to unapologetically "ratchet" anthems, to classic R&B cuts that had the whole room singing along.
What’s Next for the "Güdppl"
By providing elevated, mature silhouettes and curating unforgettable physical experiences, Lorenzo Beach and his team are proving that güdPPL’s is much more than a clothing brand; it is a lifestyle maturation. They are successfully bridging the gap between youthful streetwear energy and elevated adult aesthetics.
If you missed the DJ battle, don't worry—this is just the beginning of güdPPL’s next chapter.
